Self defense against multiple attackers

Testimonial:

"I have spent most of my life as a police officer and witnessed many self defence systems that have come into fashion and gone out of fashion. From what I've seen so far of the SEPS program, this looks like one, that might just last the course.

I've yet to see anything that rivals if for both its techniques and its approach to dealing with violent situations be they in the home or on the street"

The SEPS Approach To Self Defense & Self Protection

self defense from a side headlock No two violent situations are the same: the locations may be different, the aggressors motivations different, the target/victims state of mind different etc, etc. In one situation you may naturally respond one way and in another a totally different way e.g. a woman attacked on her own on an unlit street is quite likely to have a different automatic response, than if she was attacked in her home and her children’s safety was threatened. Self defence and self-protection to be effective cannot take a ‘one size fits all’ approach neither can it be technique centric.

SEPS (Situation Effective Protection System) is based on the simple premise that all situations are different and all individuals are different. Rather than simply teach people what to do, SEPS training looks at equipping the individual with the skills to make rapid risk assessments, choose an effective strategy and then implement it with efficient single-mindedness.

self defense knee attack Such, strategies do not always involve physical engagement; where possible de-escalation and disengagement are promoted. Individuals learn how to adjust and use their aggressor’s emotional state to their advantage.

Self Defense Assumptions & Worst-Case Scenarios

The reason physical engagement is always taught as a last resort, is because SEPS teaches the individual to assume three things about any aggressor they face:

  • The aggressor is at least equivalent to them in physical attributes and technical abilities
  • The aggressor is always armed, even if they are not displaying a weapon
  • The aggressor is never alone, even if they appear to be on their own
  • SEPS teaches individuals how to deal with the worst-case scenario i.e. a group of armed individuals who are both superior in physical and technical attributes. This means teaching: avoidance, de-escalation and disengagement techniques as well as how to physically handle such a situation.

The system is based on first-hand experience of violence, academic research (ethology, psychology and other social sciences), military research (especially in the areas of decision making when under stress), our own sponsored research and our experiences in the security and law enforcement industry.

We also work with other reality based self-defence professionals, on a continual basis, to ensure that SEPS as a system is analysed and scrutinised externally as well as internally. This we believe is the only way the system can evolve and progress in an effective and efficient manner.

    Scenario Based Self Defense Training

seps control and restraint In SEPS, individuals are taught how to fight and survive when prepared, when surprised, when standing, when seated, when on the ground, when with third parties (family and friends) whom they need to protect, in multiple locations (car, home, street, bar/pub etc) and against attackers/aggressors armed with all types of weapons; from knives and guns to improvised weapons such as chairs and broken bottles. SEPS is truly a physically technically comprehensive system.

Individuals are always trained within situational contexts. This is done using scenario based training, which sometimes involves the ues of Redman Suits. For more information on this type of training, please click here.
