The SEPS Instructor Program
SEPS instructor courses are not like many self-defence/martial arts courses, in that anyone attending must already be teaching a
system or have experience of a particular martial art. This is because SEPS is not looking to teach individuals a set of techniques,
what it aims to do is teach a person how to instruct their system as a comprehensive self defence/self protection program.
There are SEPS modules that can be added on e.g. ‘SEPS Knife Defence Instructor’, ‘SEPS Firearm Defence Instructor’ etc, for those systems
that don’t have defences against these weapons - where techniques are taught - but before an individual can become a SEPS instructor they must already have a good grounding
in a martial art.
This is because SEPS is not looking to turn out ‘5 day course instructors’, who have no background in self-defence or the martial arts and
who are unable to offer real solutions to violent and aggressive individuals/situations.
The SEPS Self Defence/Protection instructor course runs over 4 days and individuals who attend it are taught how to teach their system
(whether it’s traditional Karate or Krav Maga) according to the SEPS method.
This means individuals will learn how to teach their students how violent and aggressive situations develop, how to recognise such situations
and identify/profile the individuals they face. They will then learn how to teach students how to respond in these situations: whether to
de-escalate verbally, attack pre-emptively and/or identify when the aggressor will or is likely to attack etc.
Individuals will also be taught how to create and develop scenarios and manage the way students participate in them.
If you are already a martial arts/self defence instructor and all you can offer to your students in terms of self defence is either a
physical solution (fighting) and/or to follow lists of advice such as ‘don’t walk down dark alleys’ etc, you are not teaching true self
defence. Your own students may be accomplished technical martial artists but they are not equipped to handle all the possibilities that
real life violence contains.
The SEPS Instructors course costs $1400 and class sizes are limited to 12 individuals (alternatively if you have six instructors who wish to
put on an instructor seminar then we can do one at a location of your choice).
There are no license fees or further payments or the need to renew/update training. SEPS charges for training alone and that which it provides
is relevant for life.
